Media Group Discussion (Unit 44)
Group 4 (Team Red)
Adam:
I think Adam's ending is the best out of our group. The idea of transitioning from the real world to a fantasy world filled with dragons is interesting and creates a lot of investment through the mystery of what is happening. I like the "inferior human" line too. It helps build a world around the events in the script.
Marcin:
I think Marcin's script has the most interesting ideas out of those in our group. The mention of "a distant buzzing of sorts" is intriguing and adds to the tone of the script. I particularly liked the line "waiting... to pull the plug". It felt like the perfect amount of menace to fit the situation.
Edugaras:
I like the tone of Ed's drone the most. Beginning its first appearance with a cheerful "hello, hello!" and then later contrasting that with the much more serious tone of the rest of the script adds layers to the concept. Finishing the script with the line "Welcome Slave 22290" was also a really cool addition.
Bella:
Bella's opening I believe is the best in our group. Waking up resting by a tree instantly makes the audience wonder how the protagonist got there. I also think the basic concept for the script is really interesting. The idea of brainwashing and "thoughts slipping away. No turning to yes" felt really unique and interesting in my opinion.
Adam’s Script:
Basic Story
James is lost in the woods, he’s looking for an exit. He hears a voice telling him to go towards the exit. Although he’s reluctant at first, he eventually decides to follow the instructions. When he enters the clearing, he sees a drone with spikes on each side of it. The drone tells him to swallow a pill, or else his family will be killed. James falls unconscious as he swallows the pill. He wakes up and looks in awe at a fantastical world filled with waterfalls and dragons flying through the sky.
Visual Effects
The Drone appears floating in the sky above the clearing to threaten the protagonist (created in Maya). The HUD shows the audience the Drone’s perspective watching the protagonist (created in After Effects). The Fantasy World appears at the end after the protagonist takes the pill (created in photoshop).
Problems
It would be hard to get a dragon to fly past the screen in the matte painting (as listed in the script). With COVID-19 taken into consideration, it would be difficult to film, and if we stay in lockdown for too long we might have to film it individually.
Actors
The plan is I will voice the drone, whilst Adam will play the protagonist.
Location
We would film everything at Long Road.
